During the weekend of 13 & 14 September, 48 monuments in Delft will open their doors for the annual Open Monuments Days. This year’s theme is: “Heritage and Architecture; Built to Last.” Royal Delft is taking part in the event by opening several special areas of its historic building to the public exclusively for this occasion.
The Royal Delft building is a national monument with a rich history. The factory was founded in 1653 and relocated in 1916 to its current location at Rotterdamseweg 196. The current building, designed by Anton van der Lee and built in 1930, is a beautiful example of architecture in the style of the New Objectivity style, with influences from the Amsterdam School style.
In the courtyard, you can admire the unique collection of architectural ceramics. The factory supplied these materials for renowned buildings such as the Beurs van Berlage and the Peace Palace.
Visitors can take a free look around the monumental garden, richly decorated with original architectural ceramics, and admire the impressive staircase. These hidden gems are usually not open to the public and will receive special attention during this weekend with a map and additional information.
For children, a free treasure hunt is available, allowing them to discover the heritage in a playful way.
On both days, Delft-based violinist and conductor Marnix Steffens will bring the garden to life with live performances.
We invite you to experience this unique piece of cultural heritage for yourself during the Open Monument Days.
Please note: Would you like to visit the museum and factory in addition to the garden? Don’t forget to bring your Museumkaart/Ooievaarspas/Rotterdampas or use our special 50% discount on a regular entrance ticket.
